A little bit about me…
I am a Two-Spirit M’Chigeeng Anishinabek beader and sewer, among many other creative skills, born and raised in Somba K’e, Denendeh (Yellowknife, NT). My passion for the Arts began very early on in life, as I sought any opportunity to create through any medium. Growing up in a small Northern community meant access to structured Arts programs were extremely limited, and often unaccessible to me financially. In many ways connection to the Arts provided me with hope, support and purpose as a young First Nation’s person growing up in the NWT.
Through this instinctual need to express my creativity I found creation in many arts avenues. I am very passionate about providing inclusive arts opportunities in my home territory and the healing that can be done through the Arts. I have had the opportunity to work with youth across the North through my employment with FOXY/SMASH and the Rainbow Coalition of Yellowknife. I am the current President of the NWT Creative Collective, a non-profit aimed at making the arts more accessible in the NWT. Currently I am attending school online to finish my Bachelors in Arts - Psychology then I plan take my Masters to become a registered Psychologist. My dream is to have a practise that has an Arts based approach with a Traditional lens weaved into clinical counselling settings.
I naturally weave in elements of my intersectionality into my work and strive to bring awareness with compassion to numerous social issues. Reconnecting with my culture through traditional crafts has been so healing and I am ready to share my treasurers with you all.
